Applying your own fake nails can be a little difficult at first but, with some practice, you can do it fairly quickly. It will save you a lot of time and money at the manicurist and allow you to practice creating original patterns and shapes. Using a professional electrical grinder is not recommended for first timers. Fortunately, a buffing pad and nail filer will do the job just as well. Make sure to use fake nails that match the size and shape of your natural nails. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions
- 1
Remove all traces of previous nail polish and acrylic with a nail polish remover. Wash the nails in water after this process to remove the excess nail polish remover.
2Apply an electric grinder to the surface of the nails. File down the natural nail until it is a little coarse. This is difficult to do and can damage your nail if you are not careful. Thus, if it is your first time, use a nail file and a buffing pad instead. Rub the buffing pad over the surface of your nail and follow up with a nail file. You want the nail to be just a little rough.
3Match each artificial nail to the size of your nail. It needs to be a perfect match. If you cannot find the right fit, take a fake nail that is too big and file it down with the nail filer to match the size of your nail. Line up your nail tips in order so you know which one belongs to which finger.
4Place a bowl of acetone next to your working area. If you incorrectly apply a nail, soak your finger in the acetone so you can remove it and start again.
5Apply a tiny drop of glue to your nail and place the artificial nail on top. Make sure the nail aligns perfectly with your natural nail before pushing it down firmly. The glue only takes a few seconds to set. It is vital that the nail is firmly in place, otherwise air bubbles will form and these can cause an infection.
6File the fake nails to a size that you wish and then paint them with acrylic or nail polish if needed. You also can apply a nail hardener to further strengthen the fake nail.
