How to Dress Up a Card Table and Folding Chairs

How to Dress Up a Card Table and Folding Chairs

When you're in a pinch for extra seating for a dinner or a party, pull out a card table and folding chairs to accommodate your guests. On their own, a card table and folding chairs may not be the most attractive elements, but with some creativity and decorative elements, you can transform these portable pieces of furniture to tie them in with the look of the rest of your home or event. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    1

Drape a tablecloth over the top of the card table. Choose a cloth that corresponds with the color scheme or decor of your home or event. For example, if you're throwing a tea party, consider a floral tablecloth. For added interest over a plain tablecloth, drape a sheer overlay on top of the cloth. For instance, if the tablecloth is solid blue, drape a lighter blue or a white organza overlay on top of it.

    2

Set a centerpiece in the middle of the table. Select a centerpiece that suits the event. For a traditional centerpiece that adds interest to any event, use a floral arrangement. If you're looking for something that makes a grander statement, put a little creativity into the centerpiece. For example, if you're hosting a Christmas dinner, place a wreath in the center of the table and set a glass vase filled with ornaments in the middle of it.

    3

Set the table. Place chargers or place mats at each spot and top them with dishes, or simply set the dishes around the table at each place. Set out cutlery and glassware as well. Drape a napkin on top of each of the plates.

    4

Cover folding chairs with lengths of fabric. Fabrics to consider using include organza, satin, silk or cotton. Choose fabrics in colors that match the tablecloth and your event.

    5

Secure the fabric to the chairs with decorative ribbon. Tie ribbon around the back of each chair above where the back of the chair meets the seat. Tie the ribbon in a bow, or simply knot it and allow the tails to hang down the back of the chair.
