How to Build Pool Table Legs

How to Build Pool Table Legs

Legs of a pool table can come in a variety of shapes and sizes that are typically pre-assembled that are then attached or secured to the frame. However, if you do not want to purchase pre-assembled legs, you can make them yourself from a hardwood, such as Douglas Fir and Birch plywood. Pool table legs can be built by first determining how high they will need to be for the frame or table you plan to use.

Instructions

    1

Subtract the width of the slate, the slate backing, slate supports and the width of the cabinet from the standard height of a pool table, which is 29 inches. The resulting number is the height that you will need for the table legs, such as 16 inches.

    2

Measure and mark the piece of 2-by-10-inch board of Douglas Fir to 16 inches with the tape measure and pencil. Cut the board on the mark with the circular saw. Repeat this step to measure and cut a second piece. This will give you two pieces that measure 10 inches by 16 inches.

    3

Measure and cut four pieces from the -inch Birch plywood that measure 11 by 16 inches. Measure and cut four pieces that measure 10 inches by 16 inches. These will be the sides of the leg.

    4

Apply a bead of wood glue to the edges of the 10-by-16-inch pieces and then set the 11 -by-16-inch pieces in place to make a box or frame. Secure the pieces of wood together with finish nails using the nail gun. Place a nail every 4 inches where two boards meet.

    5

Apply a bead of wood glue around the edges of one 10-by-16-inch piece of Douglas Fir. Insert the piece into one end of the frame. Secure the wood to the frame with finish nails using the nail gun.

    6

Repeat this process to build the remaining legs for the pool table.
