Things to do at a Birthday Party Spa

Things to do at a Birthday Party Spa

Consider the pampering that characterizes a resort vacation, such as facials, massages and manicures, and recreate playful versions of these activities for a child's birthday spa party. Set up and stock spa stations for the guests. As they arrive, give each child a spa basket that contains a robe, slippers, a hair band and a bottle of fresh lemonade. Place a poster-sized paper in the lounge area that children can sign and color, turning it into a birthday card for the celebrant. Does this Spark an idea?

Spa Stations

Have the children help you set up three areas in the birthday room for facial, manicure and massage stations. Direct them to gather towels, sponges, cotton balls, Q-tips and trash cans for the facial station. Set up a table and bowls for the children to apply the masks. Place pillows on the floor for them to rest on while waiting for their facial masks to dry. Have the children collect nail and cuticle clippers, toe nail separators, skin and nail files, Epsom salts, pedicure tub and manicure bowl for the manicure station. Buy brightly colored nail polishes and place them on a tray. Have the children gather lotion, lounge chairs and blankets for the massage station. Provide pillows for the "masseuses" to kneel on.

Beauty Products

Have the children help you make the beauty products they are going to use in the spa party. Create a few different masks, such as avocado and yogurt, apple honey and chocolate facial masks. Mash a quarter of avocado and mix in 1 tablespoon of yogurt in a bowl for each child. Have them spread the paste over their faces with a sponge and wait for 15 minutes before washing it off. Grate 1 medium-sized apple and add 5 tablespoons of honey to make the apple honey mask. Instruct the children to gently rub the mix over their skin and rinse off with cool water after 10 minutes. Mix 1/3 cup cocoa powder, 2 tablespoons heavy cream, 2 teaspoons cottage cheese, 1/4 cup honey and 3 teaspoons oatmeal for the chocolate mask. Have the children cover their faces with the brown goo. Direct them to wait for 10 minutes before rinsing off with warm water.

Hair Salon and Makeup Area

Put all of the mirrors in your house in a corner of the room and pair them with two tables. Designate one table as the hair station. Place an array of hair decorations, such as ribbons, hair extensions, barrettes and hair combs on the table. Set aside a stack of hairstyle magazines so the children can read about new styling techniques, such as braiding with ribbons. Provide blush, lipsticks, eye liners and shadows, Q-tips and cotton pads on the makeup table. Add baby oil or makeup remover so the children can remove several types of cosmetics without damaging their skin.

Lounge Area

Use chairs and sofas to create a comfortable lounge area filled with pre-teen magazines. Place a CD or DVD player in the area for the children to watch movies or play music. Add a digital camera for the children to take pictures as they move in and out of spa stations. Gather aloe vera gel, plastic bottles, fine polyester glitter, stick-on labels, colored markers and stir sticks. Have the children create body glitter in the lounge. Ask them to fill their bottles 1/2 full of gel and sprinkle as much glitter into the gel as desired. Use the sticks to stir the mixture. Direct them to create colorful labels for their homemade beauty products.
