How to Build a Makeup Table

How to Build a Makeup Table

If you apply makeup on a regular basis, you know that it can be a time to let the rest of the world disappear. A makeup table can be a much more pleasant place to apply your makeup than a bathroom or other space. You can build your own makeup table using two bedside tables as the supports, giving you working drawers with no additional effort. You can build this table with minimal carpentry skills. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    1

Position two matching bedside tables (with the drawers removed) next to each other, with 2 feet of space between them. The bedside tables used must have sturdy tops.

    2

Cut a piece of MDF into a rectangular tabletop. It should match the depth of the bedside table tops, and be wide enough to cover both tables and the gap in between. For example, if the tables are two feet wide, the tabletop should be six feet wide (two foot bedside table, two feet of space between and another two foot bedside table).

    3

Screw the MDF to the bedside tables with one-inch wood screws, first drilling pilot holes to prevent the wood from splitting. You can use a hand or electric screwdriver depending on your preferences.

Use eight screws, one in each corner of both bedside tables. Countersink the screws slightly below the MDF surface.

    4

Fill the screw holes with wood putty. Scrape the putty flush with the table surface with a putty knife and sand it smooth once it has dried.

    5

Cut a rectangular piece of MDF for the back board. It should be as wide as the table and tall enough to extend from the floor to the top of a mirror positioned above the table surface.

    6

Position the MDF behind the table and screw it to the backs of the bedside tables. Use eight screws, one in each corner of each bedside table. The length of the screws depends on the thickness of the bedside table's back. They should not emerge into the interior of the bedside table.

    7

Paint the entire makeup table. The drawers should be painted separately.

    8

Attach a mirror to the standing piece of MDF using mirror mounts. It should be large enough to see your entire head when sitting at the table. Center it so that your eyes are in the middle of the mirror.

    9

Position the makeup table in a well-lit area and put the drawers back in.
