How to Protect Tabletops

How to Protect Tabletops

A dining room or kitchen table can be the focus of a home. As the place where your family gathers for meals, games or meetings, it can either be a comfort or an eyesore. Whether your table is new or old, you can protect it by first taking care of it and then using covers or toppers to protect it from overuse or damage. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    1

Prevent sunlight and dust from damaging the table by placing a pad on top of it. The pad, usually made from felt or fiberboard, covers the whole table and can be easily removed for meals.

    2

Wipe your table clean after each use with a damp rag and a mild soap if needed. Keeping the table clean and free of debris will prevent it from being damaged.

    3

Wax a wood table with a paste wax twice a year. Waxing a table prevents the wood itself from being damaged by spills or minor nicks or scrapes.

    4

Use a tablecloth to protect your tabletop during meals. A vinyl table cloth with a soft backing will prevent spills from soaking through to your table and keep it from being damaged by light use.

    5

Place an acrylic or glass table top cut to fit your table on top of it. The table topper needs to be placed on spacers to keep moisture from accumulating between the glass and the table. A table topper made of acrylic or glass is resistant to stains and spills and can prevent a table from being nicked or scratched while still showing off the beauty of the table.
