How to Protect Wood Painted Tabletops

Although wood is beautiful and desired by many homeowners, it is also susceptible to damage, from water and even light. Because of this there are many special precautions to take to extend the life of your wood floors and objects. This especially holds true for a wood painted tabletop. Tables receive more use than other wood objects, and because of this they are more open to damage. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    1

Paint a layer of wood paint sealer. This sealer is clear but protects the wood paint from water and sun damage. You need only a thin layer to help protect the table.

    2

Place a tablecloth over the table. The tablecloth prevents food from being absorbed into the wood and damaging it. It also helps prevent scratches from dishes and silverware.

    3

Set your drink glasses on coasters. Water stains left from drinks can damage the painted wood table and are hard to remove. Using a coaster prevents this problem.

    4

Close the blinds or window treatments around your painted wood table. Extended hours of sun exposure can fade the wood and the paint color.

    5

Clean up and wipe off any spill as soon as it occurs. This prevents the stain from becoming permanent in the wood.
