How to Create Mosaic Table Tops

How to Create Mosaic Table Tops

Mosaic is an art form that uses hundreds of small tiles in various shapes to create an image or design. You can create mosaics on nearly any flat surface including tabletops. Turn tabletops that are bland or in need of surface repair into stylish and artistic conversation pieces by applying a mosaic pattern or image.

Instructions

    1

Lay out your design on your tabletop or on a surface that is roughly the same size and shape as your tabletop. Use cardboard, butcher paper or any other material that can be measured to the size of your tabletop for this purpose.

    2

Glue each tile to your tabletop with ceramic tile glue, leaving - to -inch spaces between each tile. Start your design from the center of the table and work toward the outside edge evenly. Once all tiles are in glued in place, allow the table to dry for an hour or two before applying grout.

    3

Apply tile grout to your table with a floater. Smooth the grout over your tiles to fill in the spaces between each tile. Wipe excess grout from your tiles with a damp rag or paper towel while the grout is still damp. Allow the grout to dry for at least 24 hours before placing objects on the tabletop.
