How to Make a Coffee Table With Wheels

A wheeled coffee table works well if you want to have a flexible living space. If you need the space in front of the couch for exercising, playing interactive video games or unfolding a sleeper bed, you can simply roll the coffee table out of the way. Not only does this coffee table have wheels, it also has built-in storage space for your favorite books, DVDs or decorative objects. You can adjust the size of the table to suit your needs by using longer boards on the top and bottom. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    1

Lay one 48-inch-long board on a flat surface. Use the measuring tape to find the center of the board and make a mark there.

    2

Draw a line of glue across the 12-inch side of one of the 14-inch-long boards. Press the side with the glue against one edge of the top of the 48-inch-long board. Repeat with another 14-inch board, pressing it against the opposite edge of the 48-inch board. You should have a flat board with 14-inch boards sticking up from both ends.

    3

Draw a line of glue across the 12-inch side of the remaining 14-inch-long board. Press the glue side on the mark you drew in the center of the 48-inch-long board, creating a divider in the middle of the table.

    4

Draw a line of glue across the sides of the 14-inch boards that are sticking up. Pick up the remaining 48-inch board and position it over the three boards, aligning the edges. Press to attach, then let the glue dry for several hours. At this point, you should have a rectangular box with two open areas in the middle.

    5

Hammer nails into the 48-inch board where it meets the 14-inch board. Place one nail in each corner of the box and two nails in the center of the board, on the top side. Turn the box upside down and hammer two nails into the center on the underside.

    6

Paint the wood and let dry for several hours, then apply another coat of paint.

    7

Turn the table so that the bottom side faces up. Position one wheel in each corner of the table and drill holes as needed. Screw the casters into place. Turn the table right side up and you're finished.
