Air Hockey Rules

Air Hockey Rules

Air hockey is a table game that is played on a flat smooth table that emits air up through tiny pin holes in order to make the puck glide across the table. The goal is for each opponent to get the puck into the opposite goal in order to score and eventually win the game. The game is for two players and involves an air hockey table, two mallets and a puck

Basic Rules

The air hockey table has a center line running in the center of the table. Each player can hit the puck from anywhere behind his center line. Neither player may have any contact with the puck, if his sleeve touches the puck or if his shirt hangs over and touches the puck, a personal foul will be called against that player. The puck can not be struck by any other part of the mallet except for the bottom as it comes in contact. A player may not top the puck, or lift their mallet and place it on top of the puck. Only one puck and one mallet per player is allowed in each game. Each player may call one time out per game and it can not last longer than 10 seconds. A player may not lift her mallet during game lay for any reason.

Beginning the Game

In order to see who goes first, a coin toss is done in official game play. For casual play you should just select someone to go first. The player chosen, or who wins the toss, will serve first. From then on out, the player that scores the last point will serve the next serve. Players will alternate sides for each match. Game play begins when a player or referee says "Time in."

Scoring

Each player will receive one point for every puck that he gets into the opposing players goal. If the puck rebounds out of the goal then it does not count. If it rebounds off the opposing player and goes into the goal it will count toward the player who hit the puck. The player that accumulates 7 points will win the game. The table will cut off power when game play is over. If a puck is hit into the goal when power is cut off, it will count only if it goes in before the table shuts down.
