How to Make Displays for a Clothing Store

A successful retail business requires a friendly environment and a creative presentation of the products. You can use a variety of presentations, several lighting techniques and multiple levels within your store to highlight designer items. The best displays are a blend of styles that show off the fashions without overwhelming the customer. Floor, wall and window displays are the major categories that can vary your presentation.

Instructions

Floor Displays

    1

Place two- and four-arm racks throughout the store. Arm racks hold many garments and can feature two or four outfits.

    2

Assemble your outfit on the outer hook. This hook is usually higher than the arm behind it.

    3

Accessorize the outfit with jewelry, purses and kerchiefs for a more complete look.

    4

Organize the featured selections by size on the rack behind the showcased outfit.

    5

Use round racks sparingly for clearance items. Space the display racks in the back of the store so that customers browse through the entire store. Arrange garments by size.

    6

Fold t-shirts, slacks and jeans neatly and arrange them by size on a display table.
Display tables work best along the middle aisle and front of the store.

Wall Displays

    7

Line your store walls with slatwalls and gridwalls.

    8

Use clothing hooks and arm racks to display dresses, blouses, shirts, blazers and whatever clothing you see fit.

    9

Accessorize the featured selections and organize clothing by size on the arm rack.

    10

Fill in empty wall space with posters, photographs or paintings that fit your store's motif.

Window Displays

    11

Place various mannequins in your window. Mannequins bring clothes to life.

    12

Dress your mannequins from head to toe including hats, shoes and accessories.

    13

Fill your window display with props or other merchandise.

    14

Cast mood lights on your mannequins to create a natural ambiance on your window display.
