How to Build a Project Table

How to Build a Project Table

Project tables provide adequate workspace for small paint jobs on wood projects to gluing multiple model car parts together. Project tables are simple in design and inexpensive in cost. They are made to get paint spilled on them and have scratches all over the surface. Plywood is an acceptable choice for the table top because it can withstand an abundance of abuse. The only other materials required can be simple construction lumber. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    1

Lay two 40-inch 2-by-4 boards horizontal, on their 2-inch edge so they are parallel and 27 inches apart. Place two 27-inch 2-by-4 boards between the 40-inch boards so they are perpendicular to them, and 37 inches apart. Screw through each of the 40-inch boards, into the ends of the 27-inch boards, to create a 30-inch-by-40-inch frame. Repeat this process with the other two 40-inch 2-by-4 boards and 27-inch 2-by-4 boards.

    2

Screw through the 27-inch 2-by-4 board into a 30-inch 2-by-4 board on one of the frames, with the frame laying flat. The 30-inch 2-by-4 should be up tight in the frame's corner, perpendicular to the frame, and with the 4-inch side of the board flat on the 27-inch 2-by-4 board. Repeat this process at each corner. These will be the legs of the table.

    3

Lift the second 30-by-40-inch frame over and around the legs. Screw through the 27-inch 2-by-4 boards on this frame as you did in the previous step, so that this frame is secured 16 inches away from the first. This frame will provide stability to your table.

    4

Turn your table frame over so it is standing on its legs. Lay the plywood on top, and position it so the frame is in the center of the plywood. Screw through the plywood into the frame to secure the table top.
