How to Remove Heat Stains From Polished Wood

Placing very hot objects, such as pans and mugs, on polished wood can cause heat stains on the wood surface. These stains occur when a collection of moisture is deposited between the wood finish and the wood itself. Since wood is organic, it easily warps when exposed to extreme heat. Even hot foods can cause polished wood to warp; hot items should never be placed directly on polished wood. Fortunately, heat stains can usually be removed from polished wood without much difficulty. Mix together equal parts of baking soda and white, non-gel toothpaste in a small cup to form a paste. Apply a thick layer of the mixture directly onto the heat stains with your finger.

Dampen a clean cloth with water and rub the cloth onto the paste. Rub the paste in a circular motion for several minutes to make sure the paste is absorbing into the stain. Stop rubbing once the paste feels warm.

Wipe off the paste with a damp cloth and dry the area with a dry cloth. Repeat the process until the stains are completely gone. Spray furniture polish on the area to add shine and protect the wood from scratches and stains.
