Air Hockey Table Maintenance

Air Hockey Table Maintenance

An air hockey table provides hours of fun and entertainment, and it makes a fitting addition to any game room. Just like any other piece of furniture in the room, an air hockey table becomes dirty and requires routine maintenance to keep it in good condition. It is fairly easy to clean and maintain an air hockey table to ensure that it lasts for many years.

Cleaning

Cleaning an air hockey table means keeping the surface free of dirt and debris that may inhibit game play. Take care not to damage the table top during cleaning. Never use harsh chemicals, cleaners, silicone or protectants on an air hockey table. Rather, clean the surface with isopropyl alcohol and a paper towel. Window cleaner is also fine to use for cleaning the table top. The table should be turned on prior to cleaning so that the cleaner will evaporate quickly. Moisten a clean paper towel with alcohol or window cleaner and wipe down the table top. Follow up by running a dry cloth over the table top to soak up any excess moisture. Avoid cleaning the table rails. This part of the table actually welcomes dirt and grime. Buildup on the rails keeps the puck from flying off of the table. A soft cloth dampened with plain water can be used for light cleaning, if necessary. Clean the paddles and puck by lightly sanding the bottoms with a fine sandpaper. This will remove the dirt and dust that has collected on the bottoms of the paddles and puck.

General Care

There is not much to maintaining an air hockey table. Keep the air hockey table covered when not in use. A pool table cover or plastic sheeting works well to keep dust, dirt and debris from falling onto the table. Clean the table as needed to remove dirt and grime from the surface, as well as from the puck and paddles. Avoid sitting plates, cups, heavy items or any items that may scratch the surface on the air hockey table. If a dent forms in the table, fill the dent with clear epoxy and let it harden. Sand the epoxy coating once it is dry to make it level with the rest of the surface.
