How to Install a Table Base to a Tabletop

How to Install a Table Base to a Tabletop

One way to add life to your existing table or salvage a table with a marred top is installing a new tabletop. Tabletops come in a variety of styles and they're a good way to rejuvenate your furniture, especially if the legs are in good shape. That saves you the hassle and expense of shopping for an entire table. Be sure to choose a tabletop that is proportional to the table base, and that the base can carry the weight of the new top. After removing the old top, installing the new one requires only a few steps. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    1

Turn the table over so that the tabletop is flat on a work surface. Remove the screws that fasten the mounting hardware to the table base and tabletop with a screwdriver. Set the screws and mounting hardware aside.

    2

Stand the table base upright. Brush off the base with a utility brush to remove any debris so you have a clean surface for mounting the new tabletop.

    3

Lay the new tabletop over the table base so its top surface is facing up.

    4

Position the tabletop so that it is centered on the base. Verify the correct alignment with a tape measure.

    5

Position the mounting hardware on the underside of the table, in the corners where the top joins with the base. Mark the mounting holes onto the tabletop. Drill pilot holes in the tabletop at the marks you made.

    6

Drive screws through the holes in the mounting plates and into the top and base, using a screwdriver.
