Free Plans to Make Coffee Tables

Free Plans to Make Coffee Tables

Coffee tables are possibly the simplest type of furniture to build. However, if you are not handy with tools, or would like to be able to visualize the steps or finished process of building a coffee table, using free plans may be a good choice for you. Does this Spark an idea?

HGTV: Build A Coffee Table

Home and Garden Television has a free, eight-step plan for building a nesting coffee table set on their website. The steps are fairly simple, as are the tools and materials used, and this project should be fairly easy for even the most inexperienced builder. The only downside of these free plans is the minimal amount of pictures that go along with the plans; there is only a photograph to go with the final, "put it all together" step, as well as a picture of the finished product. However, these free plans should result, without too much effort, in a sturdy, functional coffee table. See references for a link to the plans.

Free Woodworking Plans

The Free Woodworking Plans website offers a wide variety of free woodworking plans in many styles, accumulated from different sources. Choices include the budget Masterwood coffee table, intended as an inexpensive but functional weekend project. There are free plans for a chest designed to also function as a coffee table and also a template for the exotic Neo-Egyptian coffee table. You are sure to find a free coffee table plan, either functional and basic or decorative and intriguing, that fits well with your decor.

Things to Build

Things to Build has a free coffee table building plan that is great for people who need visual aids. While the end result is simple and functional, the directions are highly detailed. Every step is clearly illustrated with a combination of graphs, photographs, and computerized drawings. The necessary measurements are carefully spelled out, and each step is clearly articulated.

Build Eazy

Build Eazy has free plans for building a cedar block coffee table. (While the illustrated project is completed in cedar, the site says, "other lumber can be used.") The plans include a brief but detailed description of the necessary steps, as well as quite detailed renditions of the lumber cutting list. This coffee table is unique in that it is built using an epoxy glue, and no nails or other hardware are used. In fact, these plans require just three materials: cedar (or other lumber), epoxy glue, and polyurethane.
