How to Display Lighted Villages

How to Display Lighted Villages

Lighted villages make a warm, welcoming display for your home and add an interesting focal point to the location of your choice. Although many people choose to set up their lighted villages at Christmastime, you can show off your arrangement at any time of the year or keep it up year-round. How you lay out your village is up to you. However, making a plan beforehand can help you find your best method of presentation. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    1

Choose your location. Pick a spot where your village is prominently displayed, yet out of harm's way. Choose a solid, level display area near an electrical outlet. A credenza, dining room sideboard or library table are perfectly suited for showing off your miniature village.

    2

Cover your table with a cloth to prevent any rough edges from scratching your display surface. Use a thin blanket, bolt of material or a folded flat bed sheet.

    3

Place a variety of objects on your table as bases for your buildings. Use books, flat boxes, Styrofoam blocks, small boards or other items to create a variety of levels for display of your buildings. Drape a large tablecloth in the color of your choice over the items to create a uniform base for your village. Choose a cloth that reaches the floor to hide electrical cords from view.

    4

Arrange your buildings strategically. Place larger pieces at the rear of your arrangement to avoid blocking the view of smaller buildings. Use a larger piece as your focal point and arrange the rest of your buildings around it.

    5

Run all electrical cords down the back of your display table and plug them into a power strip. Plug the power strip into your wall outlet.

    6

Place a variety of small accessories around your village to create an authentic look. Trees, sleds, people and wishing wells add interest and make your village appear to come alive.
