How to Mark the Spots on a 10 Foot Snooker Table

How to Mark the Spots on a 10 Foot Snooker Table

Snooker tables are generally quite durable. However, it is inevitable that over time the felt will wear thin from use, and the markings will fade. A clean, smooth felt surface is required to enable the balls to move effectively across the table. Occasional re-felting is recommended, at which point, you will need to know how to mark the "D" and "spots" in the correct position on the new felt.

Instructions

    1

Measure the width of your table directly between the middle pockets (most 10-foot snooker tables have a width of five feet). Make a small mark with your pen (smaller than the replacement spots you will be using), directly in the center of the table, found by halving the width. This will be the center, blue ball, spot.

    2

Place a replacement spot temporarily on the center of the bottom rail (cushion). Using your tape measure or long ruler, measure between this spot and the new blue ball spot mark. Mark a spot halfway between the two, or in the case of a 10 foot table; 2 1/2 feet up from the bottom rail. This will be the pink ball spot.

    3

Place your long ruler between the center of the bottom rail and the pink spot. Measure 10.9 inches up from the bottom rail and make a small mark at this point. This will be the black ball spot.

    4

Measure two feet down from each corner of the top rail and make a small mark. Draw a line using your marking pen attaching these two points and creating a solid line across the table. This is the baulk line.

    5

Place a replacement spot temporarily on the center of the top rail (as you did on the bottom rail in step 2). Place your long ruler between the blue ball center mark and the replacement spot on the center of the top rail. Make a mark where your ruler intersects the newly drawn baulk line; this is the brown ball spot.

    6

Measure along the baulk line from the upper left rail. Make a mark 1/3 of the width of the table. For example, if your table is 5 feet wide, the spot will be 20 inches from the rail. Make a mark at this point. This will be the yellow ball spot.

    7

Repeat step 6 starting from the upper right rail. This will be the green ball spot.

    8

Set the radius of your compass (the point between the pen and point) equal to the distance between the brown and yellow ball spots. Place the point on the center of the green spot, and draw a semi-circle from the yellow ball spot to the green ball spot. This will produce the "D."

    9

Add your new spots over the marks you made. Most replacement spots are self-adhesive, but others require a material glue to stick your the spots to the felt.

Remove the spots from the upper and lower rails.
