Ideas for Displaying Custom Jewelry at a Fair

Ideas for Displaying Custom Jewelry at a Fair

Despite its beauty, jewelry is often easily overlooked when not displayed properly. At fairs and events, vendors vie for the attention of patrons, and their tables or booths are often decorative to draw the eyes of customers milling about. Selling custom-made jewelry is much more effective when it is exhibited properly.

Complementary Colors

Colorful displays are appealing; however, too many colors can detract from the jewelry itself. Instead, colors should be chosen that help the jewelry pop out and become more noticeable to the eye. For instance, colorful gemstones should be placed on surfaces that are less vibrant, such as whites or beige. Black skirting for booth tables and champagne-colored fabric for jewelry displays are also good options. Use table skirts that fall all the way to the floor so that empty boxes can be stored beneath.

Live Models

Using live models helps patrons see what the jewelry looks like when worn.

A fun way to display especially unique pieces is on live models. Ask friends or family to attend the event and wear some of the jewelry to display it. They should also wear a shirt that helps bring out the colors in the necklace; generally a solid color, maybe back or white depending on the colors in the jewelry, is a good choice. They could sit in a chair by the booth or circulate, offering business cards or pointing out the booth to those who show interest in the necklace.

Organization

There is nothing more frustrating than finding a piece of jewelry that you like and then having to untangle it from a glob of other pieces. Chains and clasps get tangled, so jewelry should be separated and displayed either individually or hanging from a rack so that it does not get wound together. Items from home that can be used to display jewelry inexpensively are mug racks, jewelry boxes (holding only a few pieces) and swaths of fabric.

Props

Tabletops are flat and don't do much for a booth's appeal. Jewelry displays that incorporate other objects to give the table some dimension will draw more attention from passersby. Boxes of different sizes covered in fabric make the table more attractive. Especially beautiful pieces of jewelry can be displayed on the higher boxes, which are the most noticeable. Mirrors are also great props, and jewelry can either be placed directly on the surface or in front of it so that the mirror shows a reflection of the pieces.
