Mosaic Tile Table Top Ideas

Mosaic Tile Table Top Ideas

Design your own mosaic tile table top to suit your personality or to complement any space. Cover a wood, concrete metal, glass or acrylic surface with mosaic tiles and thinset, waterproof construction adhesive or one-part epoxy. Always use tiles that have the same thickness on a mosaic table top to maintain a flat surface. Does this Spark an idea?

Garden Mosaic

Decorate a solid patio table top with a floral or stylized sun pattern using ceramic mosaic tiles. Trace the desired pattern directly onto the table top with a permanent marker. Place a large flower, tree or sun in the center of the table, and then add a complementary border around the perimeter of the table top. Begin filling in the pattern in the center of the table and work toward the edges. Use waterproof construction adhesive to attach the ceramic tiles to the table top. Leave no more than 1/8 inch to 1/4 inch of space between each tile for grouting.

Monogrammed

Make a monogrammed breakfast or occasional table using glass or ceramic mosaic tiles. Trace the bubble-style initials onto the center of the table to make a statement, or space smaller monograms around the table border for a more subtle design approach. Tile the monogram letters first; regardless of whether they are in the center of the table or around the perimeter. Next, fill in the spaces between the letters with your choice of tiles. Cut the tiles with tile nippers to make them fit within the design outline.

Lighted Stained Glass

Create a mosaic tile table top using a sheet of glass or acrylic as the base and shimmering stained glass tiles to create the mosaic. Place the tiles with the sides touching if you prefer not to grout. Clear adhesive, such as one-part epoxy, works to attach the glass tiles to the glass or acrylic sheet. Attach table legs to the underside of the top, and then light the stained glass mosaic from below. Attach strand lights beneath the glass top or install fluorescent strips onto a board running beneath the table top.

Verse

Transfer your favorite inspirational verse or word onto a table top using glass or ceramic mosaic tiles. Trace bubble letters to spell out the message onto the table surface, then fill in the letters with tiles. Space the tiles for grouting and nip as necessary for the best fit. Use a contrasting color for the tiles around the message to make the message stand out.
