How to Assemble a Table Top Easel

How to Assemble a Table Top Easel

Tabletop easels are lightweight easels designed to sit on a table. There are several advantages to having a table easel: it is compact and easily packed, it is light enough for an art student to carry it to class, and it is the right size for a child artist. The artist does not have to stand, and a tabletop easel is an ideal size for an artist who does not have room for a big floor easel. Table easels come in a kit that has to be assembled. Purchase the kit at an art supply store.

Instructions

    1

Take the three pieces of wood that are the same size and lay them out on a table. On the bottom of each piece of wood is a hole, and in the kit are three small rubber tips. Place the small end of a tip over a hole and tap gently with a hammer so the end goes into the hole.

    2

Line up the holes on the other end of the wood pieces so you can place a bolt through all three pieces. Push a 2-inch bolt through the holes and place a washer on the end of the bolt. Put a wingnut next to the washer and tighten it. This forms a tripod that is the legs of the easel.

    3

Attach the canvas tray to the front legs by placing the smooth side of the tray behind two legs and the part with the crevice to the front of the same two legs. The two pieces are to be even with one another. Put a 3-inch bolt through the holes in the center of each piece to attach the two pieces together around the legs. Place a washer and the end of a chain on the bolt. Put a wingnut on the bolt and tighten it.

    4

Screw a cup hook to the inside of the back leg. Secure the loose end of the chain to the hook. The chain will hold the easel steady.
