Table Art

Table Art

Adorn your table with artistic creations, centerpieces or homemade crafts during holidays, birthdays or just because. Art comes in many forms that involve using materials from home, flowers and traditional objects. Dressing up your table can make any event more appealing for guests and family members. A decorative centerpiece also makes regular family meals more inviting. Does this Spark an idea?

Sculptures

Sculptures can add artistic appreciation to a family table. Make your own clay sculptures to display on your table or look for table art at craft stores and art fairs. Small fountain sculptures with fake baby birds attached to the border will make a conversation piece. Choose small pieces of art that don't add too much weight to the table and make sure to put it in the middle, so that your overall table design stays balanced.

Place Mats

Place mats can add a new element of design to the table. Choose green, burgundy or turkey-inspired place mats for a fall table. Buy these at the store or sew them yourself, if you have that ability. Help your kids make paper place mats for family get-togethers, informal parties or birthday parties. Help your child use markers or crayons to color designs on sheets of cardstock and take these creations to a print shop to add plastic embossing over the designs.

Handmade Crafts

Showcase homemade crafts that your children bring home by placing these creations on the center of your table. Handmade picture frames with a family photo can look nice on the table with a few decorations such as candles and flower petals around it. A decorated pumpkin can make a fall table more festive, and hand cut snowflakes look nice around the border of a winter floral centerpiece.

Floral Centerpieces

Use real or silk flowers to showcase your love for color during spring, fall or family events. Choose an artistic vase that matches the season and select flowers that blend well with the time of year. Try a combination of yellow, white and pink roses in a pastel-colored vase for a spring table. Dress up the border of the centerpiece by sprinkling rose petals around it. Feature other embellishments for spring such as tiny birdhouses on both sides of the arrangement with a life-like bird sitting on top or right in front. Other ideas include featuring hand-crafted bird's nests with pink or purple eggs inside, candles and other spring embellishments found at the craft store.

Choose other types of flowers such as sunflowers, orchids and bright blooms in the summer months. Tone it down in the fall by decorating with rustic shades of gold, burgundy, forest green and orange. Sunflowers also work for fall with other fall decor items such as burgundy candles, silk fall leaves and small pumpkins or gourds. Place these items around your centerpiece or include them in the arrangement.
