Creative Ways to Collage a Wood Table

Creative Ways to Collage a Wood Table

Collages present the opportunity to include many different visual elements in one piece. Collaging a wood table can be done many ways and with items that can either be found around your home or purchased inexpensively. Possible collage decorating techniques include decoupage, fabric and mosaics or mirrors. Does this Spark an idea?

Decoupage Collage

Collage the face of your table using a decoupage technique. This technique involves using a water/glue mixture to adhere paper to a surface with a paint brush. Sand and clean the surface of the table, then adhere small bits of colored, metallic or textured paper to the surface, completely covering the paper with the mixture. This technique also works with larger pieces of paper.

Add a kitchen or cooking theme by using this decoupage technique for collaging food labels or recipes to the surface of the table.

Create a family theme by using family pictures or copies of letters or other correspondence between family members.

Create a travel theme by using maps, postcards, stamps and paper momentos from different locations.

Once your decoupage design is dry, seal the design with a clear acrylic finish.

Mosiac or Mirror Collage

Create a mosaic or mirror collage on the surface of your table. Affix small pieces of chipped tile or mirrors to the surface of your table in the design of your choice, grout between the pieces and clean up any excess grout using a damp cloth. Use a combination of tile and mirrors for a dynamic collage. Mosaic or mirror collages are a way to reuse or re-purpose broken dishes, ceramics and mirrors.

Fabric Collage

Create fabric collages on the surface of your table by reusing old clothes or purchasing fabrics that match your decor. The fabric can be attached to the table surface using a clear adhesive, and the entire design should be covered with a piece of glass cut to fit the table surface.
