Decorating Tips With a Brown Sofa

Decorating Tips With a Brown Sofa

Brown is a color that's often associated with security and stability but can sometimes look dull and boring. Decorate with a brown sofa in a room by introducing livelier colors for a brighter and fresher look and feel or stick to neutrals for a warm and cozy atmosphere. No matter what room in your home the sofa is in, it's not difficult to decorate around a brown sofa if you know what to match it with. Does this Spark an idea?

Walls

Since brown is a neutral color, you can paint your walls in any color that you wish. One way to choose the color of your walls is to decide if you prefer warm colors like red, orange and lime, which are vivid and energetic, or cool colors like blue, violet and green, which are calm and soothing. A brown sofa will stand out in a room with white walls. If your brown sofa has no print, you can paint vertical or horizontal stripes on your walls. Paint your walls in a solid color if you have a printed brown sofa. Likewise, printed wallpaper or natural-fiber wallpaper like grasscloth, can also be used on walls with a brown sofa.

Furniture

The other furniture in your room, like the coffee table, side tables, desk, entertainment unit and side chairs can all be in the same shade of brown as your sofa. However, it would also be appropriate to decorate with furniture in lighter shades of brown. Additionally, you don't have to decorate with furniture in all the same shade of brown. You might have a light-colored coffee table and a dark-colored entertainment unit. White furniture also goes well in a room with a brown sofa as it stands out against dark colors. Black furniture and furniture made from acrylic and glass also go well in a room with a brown sofa. Don't be afraid to decorate with one or two colored furniture pieces as this works as accent pieces by adding a pop of color to the room.

Soft Furnishings

Soft furnishings are fabrics used in your home and include bath towels, table linens, curtains, bedding and upholstery. Choose soft furnishings in a fabric that matches with your brown sofa's fabric or mix and match by combining different kinds of fabric. The color of the fabrics that you choose should also match the colors on your sofa. For example, you can decorate with brown window treatments or choose to match your window treatments to one of the colors or prints of your throw pillows. As with your walls, the colors for soft furnishings that go well with a brown sofa depend on whether you like warm or cool colors.

Accessories

As with all the other elements in your room, the accessories that you choose in a room depends on the look and feel that you want. If you want a neutral room that feels warm and natural, decorate with items like woven baskets and trays and other natural-fiber materials like a sisal area rug and bamboo blinds. For a more contemporary room, decorate with brass, chrome or antique silver floor or table lamps. Give the room an eclectic feel by decorating with a colored blanket, table lamp, glass jars and candles.
